Location: Flexible within the United States

Type: Full-time, two years, with possibility of extension

Clean Air Task Force (CATF) is a non-profit organization working to safeguard against the worst impacts of climate change by catalyzing the rapid global development and deployment of low-carbon energy and other climate-protecting technologies. This is accomplished through research and analysis, public advocacy leadership, and partnership with the private sector. With nearly 25 years of nationally and internationally recognized expertise on clean air policy and regulations and a fierce commitment to fully exploring all potential solutions, CATF is an environmental advocacy group with the bold ideas needed today to solve the climate crisis. CATF is headquartered in Boston, with staff working virtually around the US and abroad.

The Energy Systems Analyst will collaborate with the program director and other senior program staff in pushing the boundaries of energy modeling to support high-impact policy and decision making. Additionally, the analyst will help develop analytical methodologies and translate these into visualizations and dynamic tools to communicate key analytical results to external stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate policy questions into modeling scenarios
  • Develop expertise in running capacity expansion models (RIO, GenX)
  • Work closely with CATF teams, policy, and communications staff to clearly articulate modeling outputs into effective work products
  • Push state of the art understanding pathway design risks and challenges by exploring modeling implications (e.g. VRE land-use, transmission development)
  • Facilitate stakeholder interaction by developing dynamic tools
  • Collaborate with senior staff to engage directly with external stakeholders and represent CATFs analytical products in public meetings, workshops, and agency proceedings

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters, PhD in quantitative field
  • Expertise in risk/uncertainty and systems-level thinking
  • Experience with RIO, GenX, or another capacity expansion model preferred
  • Deep knowledge of the energy system and decarbonization pathways
  • Proven skills and experience working in a high-functioning team, managing projects with tight deadlines in a collaborative way
  • Self-starter who enjoys taking initiative and helping others
  • Consistent follow-through, highly organized and committed to high-quality work

Compensation and Location:

This is a full-time, two-year position with option of renewal. CATF offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience.  The location for this position is flexible within the United States. CATF provides equal employment opportunities.
