General call for National Legal Experts – Various, EU

  • Tetra Tech is seeking to build a network of National Legal Experts who will provide thematic, geographical and linguistic coverage of their respective national legal systems
  • Various projects and programmes
  • 27 EU countries

The Position

As a National Legal Expert, you will support our EU practice in bidding and delivering for assignments for the Directorate General for Justice and Consumers of the European Commission (DG JUST), the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), the EEA & Norway Grants, as well as other relevant organisations active in the areas of Justice and Consumers.

The positions will vary, tasks are likely to include:

  • Mapping of national legislation;
  • Case law review and analysis at national and EU level;
  • Tracking legal developments in a variety of legal areas at national level;
  • Collection of qualitative and quantitative data at national level.

Your expertise is required for one or more of the following policy areas:

 

  • Civil Justice
  • Criminal Justice
  • Horizontal justice files (judicial training, e-justice, judicial systems)
  • EU Citizenship
  • Personal data protection
  • Fundamental rights as laid down in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, including the rule of law
  • Anti-discrimination and gender equality
  • Racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance
  • Rights of the child
  • Consumer policy
  • The international dimension of EU justice and consumer policies
  • Developments and new challenges brought about by new technologies and innovations in EU justice and consumer policies

The Person

 

You will have:

  • A university degree in law from an EU Member State;
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in legal research in the national context, covering one or more of the policy areas listed above;
  • Native speaker of the language of the EU Member State you are covering;
  • Excellent command of the English language (level C1 in Common European Framework Reference or higher).

One or more of the following qualifications would be an asset:

  • A legal post-graduate qualification (LL.M.);
  • Professional title establishing you as a lawyer in an EU Member State (e.g. Rechtsanwalt, Avocat etc.);
  • In-depth knowledge of, and ideally previous experience of working with the EU Institutions and agencies in the field of justice and consumers;
  • Experience in delivering technical monitoring and/or evaluation work, developing evaluation designs and research methodologies, gathering and analysing evidence;
  • A working knowledge of at least one other EU language.
