Position description

Do you want to help change the system to ensure the rights of people forced to flee are respected? We are looking for two creative and experienced advocacy professionals to join NRC’s Advocacy Media Section and work with colleagues throughout the organization to accelerate our advocacy work in the service of the millions of people displaced around the world.

About the roles

You will be responsible for driving NRC’s advocacy efforts and generating impactful evidence-based advocacy initiatives, in close collaboration with colleagues at country, regional, and global levels. Advocacy is one of NRC’s three core functions, alongside field-based programmes and expert deployments. In this role, you will help build our capacity to affect systemic change, in line with our 2022-2025 global strategy, including through the design, planning, and implementation of efforts to better integrate advocacy into programmatic work across the organization and leading our advocacy training and capacity building efforts.

You will report to the Advocacy and Media Director and be part of a dynamic team of advocacy and media experts who work closely together in an integrated approach to private and public advocacy. The two roles are for a Global Advocacy Adviser or Senior Global Advocacy Adviser, depending on the candidates’ profile. While the roles are for permanent contracts, shorter engagements may be considered.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have the following:

• Relevant university degree and minimum 5 years relevant professional experience within the humanitarian field, development, human rights, foreign affairs, or similar;
• Strong knowledge and understanding of the humanitarian sector, both policy and practice, as well as international humanitarian and human rights law;
• Professional knowledge and understanding of the use of media and communication for public advocacy and demonstrated strength in oral communication and media performance;
• Experience with training and capacity building;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
• Experience representing an NGO, donor, or UN agency;
• High level strategic and tactical skills and proven ability to analyze complex political and humanitarian contexts;
• Experience in developing complex and context-sensitive advocacy strategy and ensuring effective implementation;
• Excellent written communication skills and experience in editing public documents;
• Flexibility and ability to adjust to changes and new requirements, and willingness to travel.
