We are looking for an experienced individual to provide maternity cover for the Humanitarian Evidence, Effectiveness and Accountability Adviser (Accountability & Child Participation) position. This position sits within Save the Children UK’s Humanitarian Department but works on behalf of the Save the Children movement. The core task of the position is to lead, and coordinate efforts related to improving accountability to children and wider communities, as well as supporting tools and guidance for improving accountability in all contexts, using a rights-based approach.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As the Evidence, Effectiveness & Accountability Adviser you will work alongside the Global Communicating with Crisis-Affected Communities lead, and this role will co-lead organisational efforts to transform accountability within our humanitarian responses. In addition, you will:

· Support response and surge staff to design their Accountability to Affected Population strategies and systems in a participatory way

· Provide technical advice on the intersections of child participation, research ethics and safeguarding.

· Ensure Save the Children’s evidence and learning from humanitarian accountability is well documented, shared globally and that changes are implemented within responses.

· Support the smooth running of the Humanitarian Technical Unit, the senior management team, cross departmental teams and Save the Children International.

To be successful you will have significant experience of working in MEAL in the humanitarian sector. You should be able to demonstrate the delivery of large strategic projects through strong project management skills and be able to communicate with impact to build consensus for change.

In addition, you will have:

· Significant experience of delivering MEAL in response including demonstrable experience of working in humanitarian settings

· A flexible and initiative-taking attitude with the ability to manage and prioritise an unpredictable workload

· Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical solutions to operational challenges

· Demonstrable understanding of quality, effectiveness and accountability initiatives in the humanitarian sector

· Excellent verbal and written communications and relationship building skills in order to deal tactfully and sensitively with a wide range of people in a large organisation.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we’ll give you every opportunity to succeed.

We look forward to hearing from you.
