SGI Europe represents at EU-level enterprises and organisations from across Europe, public and private, at national, regional and local level, which are public employers or providers of services of general interest. SGI Europe is one of the three general cross-industry social partners recognised by the EU Commission and represents public services employers in the European Social Dialogue.

We are currently looking for a trainee within the social affairs policy field.

Desired starting date: ideally early May 2021 for a period of 6 months. if sanitary conditions allow, interviews will be conducted on 29 and 30 April 2021 in Brussels. Otherwise, they will be done via videoconference. Intern level financial compensation available.

Main responsibilities

The main task of the intern will be to assist the Social Affairs Policy Advisor, working on issues concerning social affairs, social dialogue and macroeconomic policies and supporting the daily work of the general secretariat.

This include amongst others:

  • Attending internal and external meetings, and drafting meeting reports;
  • Draft policy briefings/background documents ahead of meetings;
  • Supporting the secretariat by undertaking coordination and administrative tasks;
  • Policy monitoring and analysis;
  • Contacts with members and external actors under the supervision of the Social Affairs Policy Officer.

Profile

Recent graduate, ideally with a Master degree, and a strong interest in European social policy and economic governance, including the European social dialogue.

Candidates who needs to do a traineeship to complete a Master degree in European Affairs, in particular European Social Affairs, will also be considered.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of EU decision making process;
  • Background and interest in social, macroeconomics, education policies are strongly valued;
  • Excellent level in English with strong written abilities. Knowledge of other languages, in particular French and/or German, is an asset;
  • Ability to prioritise work, deal with a variety of topics with tight deadlines;
  • Self-starter and team player who can work effectively in a small and international team;
  • Eye for details and highly organized.
