LESOTHO NATIONAL FORESTRY POLICY STATEMENT OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY UNDER THE MINISTRY OF FORESTRY RANGE & SOIL CONSERVATION (MFRSC) AND MAINSTREAM/INTEGRATE CLIMATE CHANGE/VARIABILITY AND ECOSYSTEMS MANAGEMENT ISSUE INTO THE POLICY

Overview :

UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. It works with individual countries on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. UNDP Lesotho supports Lesotho’s development priorities laid out in the National Strategic Development Plan and through that, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main focus areas of the UNDP Country Programme are Democratic Governance; Environment and Energy; Poverty Reduction and Economic Growth, with Gender Mainstreaming and HIV/AIDS as crosscutting areas.

The Government of Lesotho (GOL), through the Ministry of Forestry, Range and Soil Conservation (MFRSC), in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Lesotho are implementing a project titled “Reducing Vulnerability from Climate Change in the Foothills, Lowlands and the Lower Senqu River Basin”. This is a 6-year project funded under Global Environment Facility (GEF) and is aimed at increasing ecosystem resilience to climate change in the southern parts of Lesotho.

The MFRSC intends to review the Lesotho National Forest Policy Statement (LNFP) under the Department of Forestry to mainstream/integrate climate change/variability and ecosystems management issues into the policy. Therefore, UNDP, under the above-mentioned project based in the Mohale`s Hoek District, invites interested national consultants with expertise and professional experience to submit applications for provision of services to review the LESOTHO NATIONAL FORESTRY POLICY STATEMENT.
