Main Purpose of Job:
Reporting to the Deputy High Commissioner (Corporate / Crisis / PSO), the job holder is responsible for the supervision of the contracted guard force and for monitoring threat and security incidents. In consultation with the Regional Security Adviser based in Manila, the CSO S&IT will provide security advice to all staff and official visitors.
The job holder will manage the day-to-day operation of the High Commission’s transport and line manage the drivers.
The successful applicant will also be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a robust health and safety programme and act as IT Support Officer (ITSO) at the British High Commission.
What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:
Security (60%)
- Supervise and manage the guard force and ensure key performance indicators are met.
- Work closely with the Regional Security Adviser based in Manila and ensure security recommendations are implemented.
- Provide security briefings to staff and official visitors.
Transport Manager (15%)
- Manage the High Commission’s day-to-day transport operations.
- Line management of drivers.
ITSO (15%)
- Proactively maintain and support the British High Commission’s IT and core infrastructure.
- Provide a focal point for IT-related queries.
- Help to resolve IT problems with support from the IT Help Desk and other IT stakeholders.
Health and safety (10%)
- Work proactively with the Deputy High Commissioner (Corporate / Crisis / PSO) to implement and maintain a health and safety strategy.
- Ensure all staff receive adequate training and instruction in emergency procedures.
- In collaboration with the Receptionist, ensure all alarms and safety equipment are tested regularly and fire drills carried out.

Working Pattern: Full time – 39 hours per week inclusive of a 30-minute paid lunch break (Monday to Thursday: 0745 – 1615 | Friday: 0745 – 1245).
The successful candidate will be based at the British High Commission in Port Moresby. However, as the position also covers Solomon Islands, it is expected that the job holder will make quarterly visits to Honiara for up to a week at a time.
The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain Work Authorisation for Papua New Guinea and valid Police Clearance Certificate. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. All candidates must be legally able to work and reside in the country of the vacancy with the correct visa/work permit status or demonstrate eligibility to obtain the relevant permit.
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission Port Moresby is subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law. In relation to this, the successful candidate will need to arrange for his/her own Police Certificate.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary may have their salaries reduced by the equivalent local income tax amount.
The FCDO also operates an agile workforce. To facilitate this, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as we may reasonably require.
