An emergency medical response is ready to deploy at a moment’s notice to provide emergency medical relief in disaster-stricken areas where medical infrastructure is damaged, overwhelmed or nonexistent.  The Mechanical Systems/Build Technician serves as the primary preventative maintenance person for mechanical and structural systems in the Emergency Medical Response (EMR) unit, and supports World Medical Mission projects as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ.
  2. Provides preventative maintenance for EMR mechanical systems, diesel generators and trailers, air filtration, HVAC equipment, and EMR structures.
  3. Assists in designing and building assemblies such as HEPA filter boxes and support structures for air handlers.
  4. Deploys as a member of the EMR team on the initial wave and assists with facility and mechanical systems set up.
  5. Compiles and maintains a library of owner/operator manuals for non-medical equipment used by the EMR team.
  6. Interfaces with Biomedical, Electrical, and Wash Technicians and Engineers.
  7. Coordinates cross-culturally with a variety of health and non-health team members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Working knowledge of mechanical systems.
  2. Ability to function effectively in a fast paced environment.
  3. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  4. General knowledge of diesel mechanics.
  5. Ability to read and understand technical drawings and written technical information.
  6. Ability to troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical equipment.
  7. General knowledge of all skilled trades.
  8. Ability to think quickly and apply creative solutions to technical problems.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Working knowledge of mechanical systems.
  2. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools.
  4. General knowledge of diesel mechanics.
  5. Ability to read and understand technical drawings and written technical information.
  6. Ability to troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical equipment.
  7. General knowledge of all skilled trades.
  8. Ability to think quickly and apply creative solutions to technical problems.
  9. Able to serve in a fast-paced environment 7 days a week for extended hours while on deployment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Mechanical Systems degree from a technical or vocational college program and ten (10) years of proven field maintenance experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Twelve credit hours of college-level Biblical studies strongly preferred.

Must be available on short notice to deploy for 3-4 weeks, 4 times or more per year. Working environment while on deployment can range from below zero temperatures to 100+ degrees with high humidity. Sleeping and eating facilities may be austere at times.
