Under the supervision of the Chief of Child Protection the consultant will support the Country Office in the areas of Alternative Care, Violence Against Children and Justice for Children
Activities and Tasks:
- Support work on the budget analysis for Alternative Care
- Support work on modelling of deinstitutionalization
- Support the SLCO and Zone offices in documenting and rolling out the PATHS life skills programmes and facilitating the finalisation of the PATHS manual.
- Support the finalization, testing and rolling out of the positive parenting manual
- Support to the preparation of the Solutions Summit Events in Sri Lanka
- Participate in consultative meetings, undertake relevant legal research related to legal reforms to protect the rights of children including the Children and Young Persons Ordinance, Adoption ordinance and Penal Code (Corporal Punishment).
- Support work on the EU project inception; Legal Aid and Legal Education; legal research and law reform; diversion programming; and support to the Attorney General’s Department.
- Support the planning, development and monitoring of programmes related to justice for children including the work with the Attorney General’s Department
- Any other relevant tasks assigned by the supervisor relating to the protection of children.
Work relationships: The completion of the above tasks will be the responsibilities of the consultant. UNICEF will however assist the consultant to meet with different government officials through the provision of letters and referrals. UNICEF Zone Offices will also facilitate visit to agencies/institutions in their respective zones, if necessary.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Education: A University Degree in law, human rights, international development or social sciences. Admission or impending admission to the Bar in Sri Lanka will be a distinct advantage.
- Years of experience: Previous work experience with UNICEF or one 1 years of work experience on related work is desirable.
- Languages required: Fluent in English is a requirement; fluency in Sinhala or Tamil is an advantage
Duration: 11.5 months
