Peacebuilding Outreach Specialist

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Within the delegated authority and under the direct supervision of the Peacebuilding Fund Project Manager for Political Stabilization & Reform or his/her designated mandated representative(s), as part of the Governance Cluster, the UN Volunteer Peacebuilding Outreach Specialist will:

  • Raise awareness of the role of UNDP in implementing PBF projects and its processes, build support for the projects and create a public image of trust, credibility and Bissau-Guinean ownership;
  • Develop, plan and implement digital, including social media, and communications campaigns and strategies for UNDP´s peacebuilding engagements;
  • In liaison with the CO communication unit, through effective and creative use of communications platforms and tools, design and implement cutting edge outreach campaigns;
  • Support PBF projects staff on local and international media engagement and interviews;
  • Coordinate outreach activities related to conferences and workshops – including drafting event outreach strategies and management of event logistics;
  • Create engaging content, including, blog pieces, articles, newsletters, press releases, speeches and videos;
  • Provide editorial assistance on speeches and publications;
  • Edit, develop and/or translate content and texts to be published;
  • Monitor, track and report on feedback and online reviews;
  • Stay up to date with digital technology trends and explore ways to leverage their use to expand outreach and engagement in support of peacebuilding;
  • Showcase UNDP´s role implementing PBF projects and thus in the promotion of the sustaining peace agenda in Guinea-Bissau;
  • Engage all relevant stakeholders for the projects to encourage their involvement and knowledge of the projects and their results, ensuring their timely and relevant inputs/contributions;
  • Monitor and inform daily the national and regional developments on sustaining peace, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, rule of law and governance;
  • Monitor and inform weekly the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) and Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) main initiatives, adapting the content dissemination narrative of PBF projects under the leadership of engagement strategy of these two bodies;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.


Bachelor degree or equivalent


Bachelor’s degree in information management, public relations, international relations, journalism and/or, communications.

Master`s degree in a related discipline is an advantage.


36 Months

  • At least 3 years of proven work experience with support to outreach and engagement strategies, in digital, media and social media management and in the production and dissemination of content to different audiences;
  • Experience in multi-channel media mobilization and engagement.

Other communications related experience

  • Knowledge of video and image/photo production and edition;
  • Knowledge of layout development, photoshop, coreldraw or similar;
  • Hands on experience with digital management, applications and content management systems;
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation of content, and reporting skills;
  • Experience in multi-channel media mobilization and engagement;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in production of communication tools (banners, roll-ups, leaflets, social cards, etc);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Advanced computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Fluency in English and Portuguese. Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
