Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
Principal job within the Commission on Immigration accountable for the day-to-day management, administrative, and operational aspects sourcing, training, and the appropriate optimization of external, probono licensed attorneys in support of the provision of an array of immigration legal services.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
 • Accountable for sourcing, recruiting, training and day-to-day management of pro bono immigration attorneys supporting the Commission’s immigration initiatives to assist in ensuring the provision of high quality pro se assistance and representation in various locations.
• Assists in the development and presentation of legal training and supporting materials, for private bar, government, and public interest attorneys.
• Accountable for pro bono attorneys to ensure the provision of quality legal services which align with the expectations of the Commission on Immigration. Provides ongoing supervision of staff, including coaching and evaluating annual performance. Mentors volunteers, as needed.
• Utilizes advance immigration law knowledge base to assist in individual matters and involves Commission staff on more complex or geographically specific matters.
• Leads and manages trips with teams of pro bono attorneys to provide pro se assistance and representation to detained adults.
• Pro Bono Counsel position works across the Commission on Immigration to develop new program initiatives, mentor and train existing volunteers, identify cases for potential placement with pro bono volunteers, maintain existing volunteer relationships, manage relationships with organizational partners like the Immigration Justice Campaign, and enhance the visibility of and engagement with the Commission’s work. 
• Actively participates in and assists others in programmatic development, fundraising, and communications initiatives for the Commission on Immigration’s projects and pro bono program.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
• Possession of a JD from an ABA accredited law school.
• At least three years’ experience practicing immigration law as an attorney.
• License to practice law in a US state or territory.
• Minimum of one year experience in senior/lead or supervisory role.
• Position can be assigned at any of the three projects: Houston, TX, Harlingen, TX, or San Diego, CA. PBC will interact daily with one of the projects, but some of the work will necessarily be remote no matter where the Pro Bono Counsel is located. Pro Bono Counsel has been and will continue to be involved in the pro bono programs at all three projects. Functions of the position can be performed from any of the projects’ three locations.

Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience
• Previous experience working directly with immigrants and asylum-seekers to address their immigration legal needs.
• Previous experience recruiting and training attorneys to conduct pro bono work.
• Previous experience in development in a non-profit organization.
• Fluency in Spanish and English in both written and spoken forms.
• Previous experience producing and distributing communications materials used for the recruitment of volunteers and/or pro bono attorneys.

Physical Requirements
Typical office work environment.

Extent of Travel Required in the Job
As a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel of less than 25% of the time.
