Advocates Abroad is a global network of diverse professionals dedicated to legal aid & MHPSS care for refugees and asylum seekers. Our teams are local and foreign attorneys, interpreters, asylum experts, medical and psychosocial service providers.
Position Overview:
Remote Legal Team Advocates uses social media, a dedicated Skype hotline, and email to provide services such as legal aid and general information on asylum services available for refugees and asylum seekers from around the world. This team also supports the Advocates Legal Field Teams through the intake and other administrative assistance.
Remote Legal Team Advocates monitors and processes all incoming messages from refugees, asylum seekers and third parties over email, social media, and phone lines. These Advocates further support the needs of refugees and asylum seekers with a twice-weekly Skype Legal Aid Hotline. This hotline offers legal aid and general advice in four languages for three hours every Monday and Wednesday.
Minimum Qualification:
Volunteering Hours: Min 5 hours per week
Qualified lawyers or legal professionals holding a law degree.
Languages: Fluency in English, while Arabic, French and/or Farsi are preferred.
Strong interest in refugee and asylum legal services.
Integrity, cultural sensitivity and ability to maintain confidentiality are mandatory.
Strong interest in the refugee and asylum issue, having experience within processing refugees and asylum seekers requests in EU is preferred.
General information:
This position is unpaid and training is provided.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for the interview
Based on the interview results accepted candidates will have to complete an online training program (40 hours of self-study).
Final step will be passing a quiz and an assessment of regional knowledge and applicable laws.
