Program Overview:
SEED Foundation in coordination with Salaheddin University’s social work department is currently implementing the ‘Protecting and Empowering Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI)’ program. This program is supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The aim of the program is to build the next generation of social workers in the KRI by equipping undergraduate students in social work with the knowledge and skills to support vulnerable people, including survivors of GBV and those at risk and to better prepare social work graduates for employment.
Following completion of an assessment for the social work department, SEED’s technical experts will work closely with faculty at Salahuddin University to strengthen the curriculum through the development of additional content, including gender, gender equality, gender-based violence (GBV), and psychosocial support, and adapting global resources to the local context and needs.
Objective of Consultancy:
SEED seeks an expert experienced in gender and GBV to strengthen the quality and relevance of the gender and GBV courses that the undergraduate social work students are taught, to increase their preparedness to enter the workforce and support clients in a survivor-centered way. This will include reviewing the existing materials within the gender courses, revising and improving existing material and adding new content. The expert will also be responsible for creating a new course on GBV, with an emphasis on working with LGBTQI+ individuals.
The expert will work in close collaboration with the existing gender social work instructor and will provide a comprehensive overview of the new content to this faculty member. Furthermore, the expert will provide training to all faculty on the new content, to improve their ability to integrate content about gender and GBV into their courses.

Social work students at Salahaddin University complete a supervised practicum for three months in year 3 at an educational institution. Then, during a portion of Year 4, students complete a practicum at NGOs or government agencies. However, students do not receive consistent supervision, and their progress is not assessed in a comprehensive way.
Accordingly, SEED seeks an expert that is experienced in social work, particularly supervising students, to help equip practicum site supervisors and university faculty with supervision techniques and assessing students’ progress in practical skills. This will include the creation of a standardized processes and guidance for practicum sites and the university including supervision management and requirements, and learning contract templates to enhance the practicum experience.
The expert will work in close collaboration with SEED’s technical team and the social work department faculty and will provide a comprehensive, interactive training to practicum site supervisors and faculty about supervision techniques and processes.. Additionally, the expert will ensure practicum sites, the university, and students have guidance and templates to utilize, for example learning plans.

DURATION
In accordance with the requirements above, the expert is expected to commit to the assignment between January 16 and March 31, 2022, including remote work and time in the Kurdistan Region if applicable, as requested by SEED. The expert must complete the work within the agreed timeframe.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
● The expert will be managed by SEED’s Program Director. The expert will also work very closely with the Education Program Coordinator (remotely or in-person).
● The expert will be required to utilize his/her own technology equipment and maintain workable Skype, ZOOM and email accounts for communication.
● All materials produced by the expert during the period of this consultancy will belong to SEED.
● The expert must sign SEED’s Code of Conduct, and abide by all provisions of these policies for the duration of the consultancy period.
● The expert will need to travel to areas of program implementation. This cost should be mentioned in the financial proposal section.
