The Schatz Energy Research Center at Humboldt State seeks an entry-level professional to join our team as a research assistant, with an anticipated start date in mid-April. As part of our off-grid energy access team, the position will support administrative and research tasks including coordination with solar product manufacturers, data input and maintenance, and test report review and analysis.

More than 1 billion people are currently unable to access grid electricity. Modern off-grid solar products help support these communities by providing clean and reliable energy for homes, farms and small businesses, and local facilities including schools and health clinics. As the technical lead for the VeraSol program, our off-grid energy access team develops and implements international test protocols for quality assurance to ensure that solar products and appliances are safe, durable, and reliable. We work closely with national governments, manufacturers, and nonprofit organizations seeking to provide energy access and resilience across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

This position will initially telecommute based on university and Schatz Center protocols related to COVID-19. When workplace guidelines allow, we anticipate this position will join our team onsite; however, it may be possible to continue as partially or fully remote, upon mutual agreement.
While telecommuting, applicants must be available to work during standard business hours (Pacific Time zone) and have reliable internet access; appropriate office technology will be provided by the Schatz Center. Applicants must also be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Minimum qualifications include the applicant having an Associates or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the US at the time of appointment.

This is a full time position, with a minimum term of one year. Employee continuation is anticipated, contingent on funding, workload, and performance.
The hourly (non-exempt) wage range is between $22.69 and $26.27, depending on skills and experience.

The Center provides medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees and dependents. The Center also provides paid leave for voting and jury duty, and programs for pregnancy, disability, and family medical leave. The Center contributes 10% of employee gross wages to a 403(b) employer-paid retirement investment plan, beginning at one year of service.
