Position description
Lead coverage of the new U.S. Space Force for Air Force Magazine /AirForceMag.com. We’re looking for a high-energy Senior Editor to break news covering the Space Force and cutting-edge technology. The successful candidate will be flexible, able to cover issues from satellites to personnel and to share in coverage of the Air Force and the industries that support our Air and Space Forces.
Air Force Magazine is the go-to source for news and insight about the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. We cover strategy, operations, people, and technology for a global audience. Editorially independent, Air Force Magazine and www.AirForceMag.com are published by the Air Force Association, a 501c(3) corporation.
Our ideal candidate has a passion for news; familiarity with the U.S. military, Congress, and/or technology; and an interest in the Air and Space forces. Knowledge of issues, agencies, and people important to national security is highly valued, as is interest in emerging technologies and the ability to explain these topics in clear, plain English. If you’re a journalist who looks beyond the news of the day and sees the stories readers will want to read tomorrow, we want to hear from you today.
We seek a self-starter and team player who is intensely curious, eager to learn, and enjoys the chase. Some travel is required, overseas travel is possible. If you enjoy breaking and making news, digging into complicated topics, and writing both news on deadline and long-form magazine features, this could be the job for you.
Job requirements include the following:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Three years or equivalent covering defense, technology, or related beats
- Working knowledge of the Air Force and/or Space Force preferred
- Demonstrated ability to write both long-form and short-form news stories on complex topics; fluency and interest in social media (Facebook, Twitter) required
- Experience covering Congress helpful
