Oxfam is a global movement of people working together to end the injustice of poverty.

That means we tackle the inequality that keeps people poor. Together we save, protect and rebuild lives. When disaster strikes, we help people build better lives for themselves, and for others. We take on issues like land rights, climate change and discrimination against women. And we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy life free from poverty.

We are an international confederation of 20 organizations (affiliates) plus the Oxfam International Secretariat, working together with partners and local communities in the areas of humanitarian, development and campaigning, in more than 90 countries.

All our work is led by our core values: Empowerment, Accountability, Inclusiveness, Courage, Solidarity and Equality.

The Role

Oxfam International Secretariat is looking for a Social Media Strategist to lead social media strategy. The person must have a consistent drive to learn.

Social media is evolving, constantly. But beyond needing to stay on top of algorithm changes, you will should be able to translate goals to tactical, actionable, snack-able communication efforts. You will need to work with internal teams, partners, regions, allies and countries to translate difficult, complex topics in a factually accurate and concise way that honors both the goals of the strategy and the integrity of the work.

*Who we’re looking for

Someone with the the ability to move seamlessly between strategy and execution. You should be able to create great social media programs that are both proactive and reactive. You have to be thoughtful about: the message, the audience/s, what channels are the best to reach them, who you should follow and keep company with, and what is the right content. You should be able to create formal strategy and guidelines, and it should be executed methodically, on a daily basis. Yet, you also have to be able to respond appropriately (and timely) to engagement by followers, whether comments, questions, shares/retweets, or reviews. And you have to seek out relevant content to engage with as your brand on other feeds. You have to develop a personality and humanize the brand through engagement, which is real-time and also just plain real. This can be a vulnerable spot for a brand, and you have to have someone that we can trust to respond with the right level of insight, depth, and empathy that suits your organisation’s point of view.

What we offer

This is an opportunity to expand your current experience into an international level At Oxfam, we believe that every aspect of our work can lead to a positive outcome.
