At the heart of Pact is the promise of a better tomorrow. A nonprofit international development organization founded in 1971, Pact works on the ground in nearly 40 countries to improve the lives of those who are challenged by poverty and marginalization. We serve these communities because we envision a world where everyone owns their future. To do this, we build systemic solutions in partnership with local organizations, businesses, and governments that create sustainable and resilient communities where those we serve are heard, capable, and vibrant. Pact is a recognized global leader in international development. Our staff have a range of expertise in areas including public health, capacity development, governance and civil society, natural resource management, poverty, fragile states, monitoring and evaluation, small-scale and artisanal mining, microfinance and more. This expertise is combined in Pact’s unique integrated approach, which focuses on systemic changes needed to improve people’s lives.

Position Overview

Pact Inc. is seeking an Intern to assist the Sustainable Markets & Livelihoods (SML) Team to conduct research and gather robust data, information, and capture lessons learned from past Pact livelihoods projects. These projects cover a range of practice areas and geographies—predominately in Africa and Asia. Project activities include but are not limited to advancing financial literary, village savings and loan groups, and establishing economic empowerment pathways for employment and entrepreneurship for Adolescent Girls & Young Women (AGYW). Pact has a long program history of increasing economic strengthening and empowerment for individuals and their families through increased access to necessary assets (social, economic, attitudinal, and educational) which result in reduced socioeconomic inequality and increased local development. This research will be used to inform US Missions about Pact’s livelihoods capabilities for future business and partnerships around the world.

This paid internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience with an international NGO and learn about economic strengthening and empowerment. The Intern will work closely with the Washington, D.C. Team remotely and will have the opportunity to interact with other Teams across Pact.

Key Responsibilities

Guided by the SML Senior Officer, the Livelihoods Intern will develop a document archive of past project reports. From that archive, the Intern will review reports and extract key statistics and data to demonstrate evidence of Pact’s significant impact. This evidence will be organized and summarized in Data Briefs that document Pact’s history of significant successful interventions resulting in economic empowerment through financial literacy, job creation, and increased income.

The Livelihoods Intern will report directly to the SML Senior Officer.
