The Communication for Development Specialist reports to the Deputy Representative for general guidance and supervision with technical oversight from the Chief of Child Survival Section. The Specialist provides technical and operational support for developing a systematic, planned and evidence-based strategy and process for C4D as an integral part of COVAX programme development, planning and implementation. Through communication and engagement, as well as the empowerment and participation of stakeholders, communities, children, civil society partners, and government counterparts, s/he promotes strategies to engage communities in acceptance and promotion of COVAX;. This subsequently contributes to the achievement of sustainable and concrete results in improving positive social change in the acceptance of COVAX.

How can you make a difference?

  • Support to strategy design and development of vaccination campaigns especially the anti-COVID-19 campaign
  • Implementation of vaccination campaign activities as well as the anti-covid-19 campaign
  • Technical and operational support to the COVAX coordination team and other campaign teams
  • Advocacy, networking, and partnership building related to the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign and others related activities
  • Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building of partners implementing activities, on risk communication, social mobilization, and community engagement for the promotion of COVAX and for other interventions.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: social and behavioral science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, education, communication, public relations, or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas is required:  social development programme planning, communication for development, public advocacy, or another related area.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in French and in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
