Summary of position:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Regional Trade Commissioner, the incumbent acts as Trade Officer with the African Development Bank (AfDB). As such, he/she is responsible for identifying business opportunities for Canadian companies, providing advice to Canadian companies interested in bidding on projects financed by the AfDB, supporting Canadian companies in their dealings with the AfDB and executing agencies, and to plan and organize visits to the AfDB.

Responsibilities:
• Support the planning and implementation of the trade program and the related development of operational objectives and policies and solutions to program requirements, among others;
• Provide advice, business information regarding business opportunities and qualified and reputable contracts to successfully implement business strategies;
• Contribute to the research and analysis of trends and developments in the trade program that may have a material impact on Canadian interests and report them to the supervisor;
• Establish and maintain a network of contacts within local and foreign administrations, partner and multilateral organizations and bodies in order to stay abreast of local developments, changes, policies and programs that may affect the delivery of the trade program;
• Work to cultivate relationships with local contacts to discuss issues related to customer needs and promote Canadian business interests and objectives by contributing to discussions in relevant forums.

Essential qualifications:
A preliminary selection of candidates will be made on the basis of the essential qualifications relating to education, experience and language requirements.

Education:
• University degree in Administration, Economics or other related fields.

Language profile:
• Fluency in French (oral and written);
• Fluency in English (oral and written).

Experience:
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in business development and/or in business financing in the private sector or public administration within the last eight (8) years;
• Experience in managing relationships with clients or partners and providing customer support services;

Rated Requirements

Applicants must also meet the rated requirements listed below for knowledge, skills and competencies that will be assessed through the following: written exam, oral interview, role play, practice test, presentation and/or psychometric test.

• Knowledge of Canada: economy, industry, export promotion;

Asset Qualifications:
Preference may be given to applicants who meet the asset qualifications. Applicants should clearly demonstrate in their cover letter and resume how they meet these qualifications, if applicable.

• Diploma from a Canadian university;
• Work experience in international business development;
• Work experience in an international institution or an Embassy or a High Commission.

 

Organizational Needs:

 

Operational Requirements:
• The regular working hours for the incumbent are in accordance with the regulations applicable to locally recruited staff, i.e. 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday with an option of teleworking on certain days.
• Ability to work overtime evenings and/or weekends as required.
• Ability to work on public holidays in Côte d’Ivoire if the embassy is open.
• Ability to travel internationally on occasion.

 

Condition(s) of Employment:
• Applicants must hold a valid work authorization covering the entire period of employment. If the position is of an indeterminate nature, the work authorization should be permanent or in itself lead to a permanent work authorization.
• Applicants must provide any document attesting to their right to reside and work in Côte d’Ivoire.
• Before a job offer can be made, applicants must provide a local address as proof of residence, in the given country, city or region so that if selected, it will appear on the letter of offer.
• A security clearance is required to obtain this position at the Embassy of Canada and will lead to verifications. This rating must be maintained throughout the period of employment; the loss of this is sufficient grounds for dismissing the employee.
