UNICEF seeks to collect data from the community to enhance accountability, to better assess its programmes while allowing for young people to give their opinions about children’s rights. To expand reach and improve data management on all its programmes, UNICEF Haiti makes use of U-Report, a new technology which enhances quality of services and information management. To date, over 28,000 Haitians have registered to U-Report and will be able to answer polls on all UNICEF programmes: Child protection, Education, Health, Nutrition, Water, hygiene and sanitation, Social Policy. U-reporters can also help inform preparedness and response to emergencies, adolescents and young people’s issues as well as help in PME data collection. UNICEF seeks to scale up U-Report in 2021 and get more and more youths in the 10 Departments of Haiti subscribe on the platform.

How can you make a difference?

The main objective of the internship is to advertise U-Report and contribute in attracting more young subscribers. The four (2 young boys and 2 young girls) students in communication recruited as interns will strengthen U-Report communication by designing tools and implementing the U-Report communication strategy. They will conceive innovative approaches, use social media platforms (TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram, LinkedIn) that will attract many more young people. Together with the Youth Engage officer, they will also help to strengthen the engagement of young people in the field.

The Intern will understand humanitarian work, children’s rights and get familiar with UNICEF 2.0  Communication strategy. He/She will master communication from strategy designing to implementation, monitoring and evaluation of results. He/She will be familiar with UNICEF innovative tool for youth engagement, U-Report. He/She will learn about planning and programming for child survival, nutrition, protection, education, water, hygiene and sanitation, social policy and emergencies.

  • Conceive social media posts to advertise U-Report and attract more subscribers
  • Conceive social media posts to advertise U-Report polls
  • Conceive social media posts to vulgarize U-Report polls results
  • Design U-report graphics to share on social media
  • Initiate communication on new platforms such as TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram and LinkedIn, and monitor posts
  • Liaise with the Youth Engage officer and U-report officer to counsel youths in the field and enhance youth engagement
  • Help liaise with more youths and encourage them to subscribe on U-report
  • Invest new communication platforms such as billboards, radio, tv, etc.
  • Liaise with Haitian artists acting as UNICEF influencers to boost U-report subscriptions
  • Help initiate new partnerships with youth organisations and movements
  • Build partnerships with mobile operators such as Digicel, Natcom and regulatory organ (CONATEL).
  • Help strengthen partnership with government and private sector

Modality: Fulltime 

Tentative start date: 19 May 2021

Duration: 26 weeks (8 to 10 hours per week)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

  • At least first year at University communication faculty or communication training school
  • Aged between 18 to 21 years
  • Student at University communication faculty or communication training school (currently enrolled in an undergraduate school and has completed at least two years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of an undergraduate degree (if the candidate is 18 years old, this replaces the two-year bachelor’s completion requirement) or is enrolled in a Graduate Degree Program (i.e. Master’s, PhD).
  • Have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
  • Individuals must demonstrate excellent academic performance through recent university or institution records.
  • Additional consideration will be given for any relevant past work experience.

  • Fluency in French and Creole.  English is an asset
