The British Embassy in Prague is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit an Administrative Support Officer

The incumbent will provide professional office administration and support for a visually impaired member of FCDO staff. The duties will be that of an Executive Assistant (EAs) with some additional tasks in the areas of project management and outreach to meet the specific needs of the visually impaired person you are supporting.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diary management; managing e-mail traffic, e.g. prioritising the in-box; preparing expense claims; organising meetings/events; taking records of meetings; assisting with project paperwork; transactional processing, including budget monitoring; and providing a high-quality customer service (ca.45% of time)
  • Guiding the staff member you are supporting to and from meetings and events both inside the office and around Prague; assisting with building relationships and networks; proof-read material before it is issued; provide quick ad-hoc translations from and into Czech, light-touch research for drafting UK Travel Advice for the Czech Republic (ca.45% of time)
  • other ad hoc tasks (ca.10%)

  • Fluency in English and Czech (oral and written, minimum C1 level*)
  • 5 GCSEs, grades A* – C, including English and Maths (or equivalent) / Czech grammar school certificate (“maturita”)
  • Demonstrable IT skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.
  • A can-do, positive, enthusiastic attitude
  • Attention to detail, able to use their initiative with the aim of delivering a high quality service
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a good team player
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Czech
  • Flexible and adaptable

  • Experience in providing administrative support in an office environment is desirable but not essential. More important is a willingness to learn and adapt to the requirements of the role.

This is a full-time position of 5 working days (37.5 hours net) per week for 6 months till 31 May 2022 with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement. Start date might be subject to change depending on the circumstances.

Working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 with a flexible working hours arrangement. Staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for extra hours worked. The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy enjoys an average of 14 Czech/UK public holidays per year.

The monthly salary is 40.730 CZK (gross). In addition, staff receive meal contribution.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and 3 months probationary period.

The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Czech Republic in order to apply.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Czech Republic are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Czech Republic employment law.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in  Czech Republic and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
