The British Embassy Abu Dhabi has a vacancy for an Immigration Liaison Assistant (ILA). The successful candidate will work as part of the UK Home Office’s Immigration Enforcement International (IEI) team.

IEI has responsibility for identifying threats to the UK Border, preventing inadequately documented passengers arriving in the UK, identifying visa abuse, and developing criminal investigations against individuals and organisations which cause harm to the UK. IEI works with UK and international law enforcement partners.

A significant amount of liaison work is required with senior managers, with international partners, and with host authorities. The Immigration Liaison Assistant (ILA) works alongside and provide administrative support to the Immigration Liaison Manager (ILM) and Immigration Liaison Officers (ILOs) to detect visa abuse and forgery trends and to engage with other stakeholders to combat immigration crime. 

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for identification of abuse patterns and forged/ counterfeit documents including travel documents (passports) as well as all supporting documents (educational certificates, marriage/ divorce certificates, bank statements, tax documents, etc.);
  • Analyse available evidence to identify necessary verification checks;
  • Maintaining IEI records of visa abuse and forgery trends;
  • Ensuring information is readily available and easily accessible to Entry Clearance Officers (ECOs) and Entry Clearance Assistants (ECAs) by developing/ updating relevant information systems including local data lists and Risk Profiles;
  • Conducting verification checks against relevant databases and local establishments (UK, UAE and Pakistan based) as required and with the agreement of the ILO/ ILM;
  • Carrying out compliance research as necessary and reporting on findings;
  • Liaising with Law Enforcement Agencies, Government Ministries, and other stakeholders in the UK and UAE, other regional states, and other countries for completion of strategic/ tactical taskings;
  • Replying to correspondence and handling allegations received by IEI in accordance with relevant legislation, disseminating information where required and identifying and alerting to the ILOs and ILM when further action is required;
  • Handling sensitive material with the upmost regard for protecting information and confidentiality;
  • Providing administrative support to the ILOs;
  • Dealing with IEI correspondence. 

The above list is not exhaustive and the job holder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

  • Previous immigration and/or law enforcement experience.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work without supervision and on own initiative.
  • Good working knowledge of IT, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).

  • Experience of immigration, visa work, and related systems.
  • Previous professional experience with an overseas mission or international organisation.
  • Knowledge of the UK National Intelligence Model and relevant UK legislation.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of Arabic, Farsi, and/ or Urdu language.

Eligibility:

The successful applicant will be required to obtain the necessary security clearance. Higher clearances can be granted only to certain nationalities. For this reason, candidates must be of British, American, Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, or EU/EEA nationality in order to gain the level of clearance required for this role.

 

 

Working hours and remuneration:

The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including: 25 days of leave per annum; on-site swimming pool, gym, and sports facilities (subject to COVID-19 restrictions). 

Salary is at AED 11,363 per month.

There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 38 hours per week. Standard working hours are from 07:30 to 15:06, including a lunch break of 36 minutes, from Sunday to Thursday. The successful candidate should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs.

The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy’s sponsorship.
