Main purpose of job:

Consular section works to support British Nationals in difficulty in Thailand through modern and efficient consular services in line with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) Consular Services Strategy, Consular Guidance and Customer Charter, local procedures  guidance and performance standards, through effective operational management and project work. 

The incumbent will be working in a small and dynamic team within the Consular section to reduce the number of preventable incidents affecting British people in Thailand, focussing on tourist safety and awareness, issues affecting British residents, and access to local services. This role will be supporting the delivery of consular prevention and communications campaigns and projects, assisting in the implementation of prevention initiatives, coordinating the team’s engagement and lobbying work, coordinating and organising campaign events and providing project support to Consular section as directed.  

He/she will deliver services to a high professional standard, demonstrating ability to operate in a fast paced and complex environment.   

Roles and responsibilities:

Consular Prevention Work                                                                                                                  70%

Provide support to the Head of Team and the Prevention Officer on Consular prevention initiatives, including:

  • Assist with gathering and collating relevant information required for prevention campaigns and projects.
  • Assist with the design and creation of campaign materials, including digital products.
  • Assist with diary management, arranging appointments for calls with Thai ministries.
  • Provide logistical support to Consular Section engagement and lobbying activities, external events, meetings and visits.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including NGOs, Thai Government authorities, international communities and relevant local and international organisations on prevention plans and products.
  • Support Prevention team to prepare presentations to a range of stakeholders.
  • Organise and maintain housekeeping of Prevention team documents and campaign materials.

Consular Section Project Support                                                                                                       20%

  • Contribute to consular projects in support of team objectives and the Consular Strategy.
  • Assist with Consular section-wide project calendar and activities.

Other duties                                                                                                                                         10%

  • Self-management – participate in annual appraisal system.
  • General ad hoc support for the Consular Section as directed.
  • Provide cover for absent colleagues as directed.

  • Ability to read, speak and write fluent Thai and English

Language requirements:

Language: English: TOIEC Level 800+ or equivalent

  • Previous experience of communication campaigns
  • Graphic design skills – Adobe Photoshop and other graphic design software, info graphic and web editing skills
  • Experience of living in or understanding of the UK

Working patterns:

Full time role (36 hours/week, Monday to Friday). Flexible working available (Embassy core hours are 1000-1600 Mon-Thurs and 1000-1300 Friday).

In crisis/emergency situations work as required to support the Embassy response (sometimes on a shift pattern working unsociable hours).

This job is suitable for flexible working patterns, subject to operational requirements.

Occasional work outside these hours may be required to meet the operational needs of the Embassy.
