Main purpose of job:

Develop the Inward Investment activities at the Department for International Trade and deputise for the Head of FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in Brazil. You will work with Brazilian companies, organisations and associations to deliver an increase in their awareness of the UK as an investment destination and to drive new foreign direct investment from Brazil to the UK. You will also work across virtual teams (with policy, programmes and commercial colleagues) to deliver investment objectives as part of a cross-country strategy. You will liaise with senior management team in Brazil, UK HQ colleagues and UK-based partner organisations to support the FDI agenda in delivering an impactful programme of activities and projects focused on developing a robust pipeline of Brazilian investors as well as promoting the UK as an investment destination for Brazilian companies.

Roles and responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity to support Brazilian investors and companies to invest and establish their business in the UK.   The successful candidate will be part of DIT Inward Investment Team based in Sao Paulo and is expected to work and perform a number of activities as broadly as described below:

 

  • Work in delivering a strategy for attracting high quality FDI from Brazil into the UK
  • Build and account manage a strong pipeline of investment projects (+100) from key sectors specially aligned with the concept of high economic impact investment
  • Work to deliver an annual target of investment projects aligned with the concept of High Value Added Investments and sector priorities
  • Assist Brazilian companies and entrepreneurs to successfully locate and expand operations in the UK
  • Conduct activities to raise the profile of the UK as an FDI location for Brazilian companies, aligned with GREAT Campaign
  • Offer high value projects advisory and account management for a number of strategic investment projects from Brazil to the UK, both from private sector and high net worth individuals
  • Support the Head of FDI Brazil to account manage Brazilian companies present in the UK
  • Execute and improve aftercare strategy for account managing 100+ existing investors from Brazil in the UK, focusing on expansions and retention of investment.
  • Work with the Head of FDI Brazil in providing regular information and reports as requested by the Ambassador, Country Director, HQ Global operations, and senior management
  • Organise and support ministerial visits, briefings, trade missions, etc.
  • Monitor KPIs with the FDI team and ensure that performance reports reflect accurate business development output
  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders in DIT HQ and relevant UK and Brazilian sectoral business organisations
  • Support the Regional High Value Campaign (HVC) for one of our strategic sectors and be a proactive part of the LATAC FDI team
  • Contribute to the regional LATAC FDI team in promoting the FDI agenda in the region, participating in regional activities and initiatives, sharing best practices and supporting the regional team as needed
  • Manage projects in line with DIT and Local Embassy/Consulate values, contributing to the overall Embassy corporate objectives and ensure good financial, project and procurement management.
  • Ensure good financial, project and procurement management of work in the team.
  • Supporting the production of content for events, missions and commercial meetings about the UK offer for business;

Your success in this position will be measured on the number and value of direct investment projects assisted to the UK market.

The position will suit an energetic team player, motivated self-starter with an interest in the commercial and FDI sectors. It will require a positive and proactive attitude that thinks in terms of unlocking opportunities for Brazilian investors and investment in the UK.

Essential on arrival:  

  • Post graduate degree in administration, economics, international relations or project management.
  • Good understanding of Brazil’s Business Environment and high level contacts within local businesses

Must have the right to work in Brazil

Language requirements:

Language: Portuguese and English

Level of language required: both fluent – written and spoken

Desirable:

  • At least five+ years of work experience
  • Experience in project management, team leadership, budget control, and planning
  • Commercial activities, account management and stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Trade and/or Investment experience
  • Desirable market knowledge or project management experiences in sectors such as life science, agribusiness or renewable energy
