Main purpose of job:

The UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT) has overall responsibility for promoting UK trade across the world and attracting foreign investment to our economy. We are a specialised government body with responsibility for negotiating international trade policy, supporting business, as well as delivering an outward-looking trade diplomacy strategy.

The vacancy is for one intern who will provide commercial and administrative support to the Inward Investment team, based in the British Consulate-General Sao Paulo.

The selected candidate will support the expansion of Brazilian companies to the United Kingdom.

The activities are largely focused on supporting the team on the management of the relationship with Brazilian companies in internationalization process and support in the delivery of several initiatives focused on the development of a pipeline of commercial opportunities in the UK for Brazilian companies.

You will have the opportunity to participate at commercial meetings, internationalization fairs, internal and external events in order to develop your professional skills and experience to enhance your future career prospects.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Providing administrative support to the Inward Investment team in Brazil and eventually activities related to broader Latin American team;
  • Keeping and updating records of interactions with clients on Client Relationship Management systems, under the guidance of the line manager;
  • Organising agendas and logistic arrangements for the team to business missions;
  • Supporting the production of content for events, missions and commercial meetings about the UK offer for business;
  • Assisting in the preparation of market research reports, internal briefings, visiting programmes;
  • Organising events;
  • Scoping business opportunities for Brazilian companies, through research, commercial meetings and cold calls;
  • Accompanying meetings with Brazilian companies seeking to internationalise, both virtually and in person;
  • Monitoring the internet, newspapers and specialised magazines gathering information for the team;
  • Supporting the team in identifying business opportunities for UK companies. 

  • The candidate must be currently pursuing a degree, preferably in International Relations, Business, International Commerce, Marketing, Economy, or other related areas.
  • He/she must also be flexible, dynamic and pro-active.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Portuguese, and excellent communication and presentation skills with both languages.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office package.

 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, team player, quick learner are desirable skills.
  • Proactive self-starter, willing to “go the extra mile”; collaborative, organized, responsible, communicative, creative and opened to learn and receive feedback.
  • Previous experience is a plus.

Essential HMG training will be given at the beginning of the Internship, with on-the-job training available throughout.

The Department for International Trade encourages staff development through the Interns Programme, shadowing with colleagues and an effective development plan.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are currently working from home with no defined date to return to the office. The necessary means for the intern to work from home will be provided by the Post.

The British Consulate in São Paulo aims to offer an attractive working environment. We will also work with the successful candidate in looking for ways to combine their academic interests with the work undertake for the network.
