Main purpose of job:

The intern supports the Communications team in all aspects of the job, including but not limited to: social media updates, reports and content generation; media monitoring; graphic design, press releases drafting, Spanish/English translations; press database updates; photo and video coverage of events (when possible).

We expect you to have a positive attitude and to be eager to learn. You will bring a different voice and perspective to our team: that is valuable to us and we expect you to be confident in expressing your ideas. You will have access to the full range of learning and development opportunities available to Embassy staff.

The internship is being offered on a remote working basis. You will need to have access to a laptop and an internet connection. You do not need to be based in Lima, and we encourage applications from students based outside of Lima.

Profile:

  • Communications, graphic design, or journalism student (at least in the six (6) semester)
  • Sense of initiative and a problem-solving attitude
  • Great attention to detail
  • Creative thinking
  • Team work and a positive attitude
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills
  • Excellent English oral and written proficiency is desired and the applicant must have good IT skills (Word, PowerPoint)

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Social media management skills: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite
  • Video editing skills: Adobe Premiere
  • Photo-editing and design skills: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign
  • Organisational / development communications or public relations background/interest preferred

Language requirements:

Language: English

Level of language required: Upper Intermediate

Your English does not need to be perfect, but you will be expected to contribute to meetings and to produce written work in English.

It is desired that the candidate is familiar with the British culture

Candidates must be eligible to live and work in Peru in their own right.  The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.  

Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):

Interns will receive training according to their role, including online courses and training from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Working patterns:

30 hours per week, Monday – Friday. You will agree your exact working pattern with your manager if you are successful.
