The British Embassy in Paris is part of the UK’s worldwide diplomatic network, representing British political, development, economic and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking for a Community Liaison/UK Based Support Officer to provide advice and support to staff and families posted to France.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Working with the existing CLO, UK Based Support Officers and other members of the Corporate Services Team to ensure officers and families are informed about, supported and guided through other arrival processes including spouse/partner employment issues, education, private vehicle registrations, access to local medical providers and other administrative procedures. This job includes a significant welfare element, supporting individuals and the community through challenging times. Events organisation once the health situation allows.

Supporting officers and families posted to France on the accommodation side, providing information on the accommodation policy to officers about to come to France and to new arrivals, supporting them during their property search and move and advising them on the process for works requests etc.

Update post information including the Post Report and Spouse/partner employment report and complete the Cost of Living Allowance return.

Be an active member of the monthly Post Housing Committee and provide support when necessary (taking minutes of meetings etc). Provide input for and update the Accommodation Policy and other guidance for staff.

Other Corporate Services tasks as and when required including arranging surplus furniture sales and general office support. The successful candidate will also cover for the existing CLO during leave and other absences. A more definite split between the two job holders will be decided depending on the experience and skills of the successful candidate and the business needs of the organisation.

  • Strong team working skills.

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office.

  • Well-developed customer service orientation, with a commitment to continuous service improvement and leading by example.

  • Proficient level of English both written and spoken, C1 level according to the CEFR framework*.

  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.

  • Discretion, empathy and good communication skills.

  • First-hand experience of an international posting.

  • Basic French language skills desirable although not essential.

This is a fixed-term contract of 6 months, with the possibility of renewal, of 35h per week. We are also happy to receive proposals from people available to work part time (minimum of 25 hours per week).

All appointments are subject to professional background check satisfactory security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to provide a copy of his/her passport or national identity card for all nationalities held, an up-to-date criminal record (casier judiciaire) for recent countries of residence (which can be obtained online at casier-judiciaire.justice.gouv.fr), two written proofs of address (utility invoices and/or bank statements) and two references.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in France are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local French employment law and FCDO guidance for Local Staff. The posts we offer are not an entry point into the UK’s Diplomatic Service.

Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in France and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
