The British Embassy in Kyiv is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a temporary Finance Officer to join our Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) Programmes Team. As a Finance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring consistent and high quality financial management of the CSSF projects. Working closely with the Programme Finance Manager and wider Programmes Team, you will provide timely reliable financial reporting, forecast and risk updates.

This role is for a 6 month maternity cover. This is a great opportunity to gain experience of working with the British Embassy and be part of the team that delivers UK programming in Ukraine.

Working alongside the Programme Finance Manager, the Finance Projects Officer will have responsibility for project level finances at all stages of the project cycle.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assessment of the newly submitted project budgets, provision of appropriate recommendations to the Post Project Board and Strategic Objectives Leads; drafting financial provisions within the contracts and track contract/budget implementation, ensuring documentation is stored in accordance with FCDO guidelines;
  • Overseeing the finances of the approved CSSF projects, reviewing project financial reporting to ensure delivery of project objectives;
  • Ensuring that all project payments are processed according to the agreed payment schedules and in compliance with the FCDO requirements;
  • Supporting and, when required, deputising for the Programme Finance Manager with monitoring of programme-level finance, and provide financial reporting to the seniors;
  • Overseeing programme delivery budget (accommodation costs and corporate credit card expense reports);
  • Supporting wider Programmes Team in implementer events or visits from London. Providing translation as required for senior officials.

  • Proficient level of English and Ukrainian (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Experience managing project budgets and financial risks;
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to lead on work strands independently;
  • Ability to manage workload and deliver at pace whilst maintaining quality;
  • Ability to communicate with different stakeholders.

  • Relevant background working with the international NGOs, governments, IFIs and other donors;
  • Financial management degree;
  • Experience of international projects procurement procedures.

This is a fixed-term contract (maternity cover) of 6 months for 40 working hours per week including 1 hour per day for lunch.

British Embassy Kyiv will provide a full induction. The jobholder will have access to British Embassy Kyiv’s full learning and development offer, which includes the Foundation Programme in UK International Policy and Diplomacy and other related courses. This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the role of an Embassy and international relations/diplomacy in Ukraine.
