Main purpose of job: 

The British High Commission New Delhi/Mumbai has a vacancy for a Learning and Development (L&D) Officer (Content design) under the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO) International Academy (IA) on a fixed-term contract of 1 year. 

The IA provides innovative and creative learning solutions to meet the needs of over 17,000 staff working internationally across the FCDO. The IA’s goal is to provide professional learning and development that builds expertise and agility to enable Her Majesty’s Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (HMG) to be a world leader at operating internationally. The IA has teams based across HMG’s overseas network and in the UK. 

We are looking for an individual with excellent content design and development skills gained in an L&D context who can develop high-quality, accessible and engaging digital content across multiple learning projects. You will make complex content understandable to different audiences and ensure it is aligned to specific learning outcomes and instructional design theories. You will be detail-oriented, with an excellent command of English and the ability to bring content to life in an engaging way. 

This is an exciting new role that will evolve as the IA continues to mature. The successful incumbent should expect to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, including working across teams. The role will require occasional international travel. 

Roles and responsibilities: 

Work with IA team members on a range of learning design projects to:

  • Contribute to the development of high-quality digital learning products for the IA and wider FCDO
  • Script and edit content storyboards, instructional text, audio and video scrips that align to identified outcomes; redraft complex language into Plain English to enhance uptake, retention and transfer
  • Design and develop content for digital assets such as ebooks, job aids or learning journals
  • Apply appropriate content standards, style guidelines and WCAG2.1 accessibility standards to your work
  • Build e-learning products using authoring tools such as Articulate Rise
  • Perform quality checks and reviews of content and digital products to ensure high standards; review user testing feedback and provide suggestions for product improvement
  • Engage with all project stakeholders; build strong relationships with colleagues and positively promote the brand of the IA

Language requirements: 

Language: English 

Level of language required: Fluent with excellent written skills

Essential on arrival: 

  • Experience of designing digital content in an L&D design and delivery context (either public or private sector).
  • Excellent communication skills in English; ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication.
  • Proven ability to write and edit high-quality digital content aligned to specified learning outcomes; experience of working with subject matter experts to elicit, structure and review content.
  • Proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in an environment of high activity, competing priorities, and time pressure.
  • Ability to bring a flexible and creative approach to your work.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented with an openness to new ideas and creative approaches to problem solving.
  • IT literate and well versed in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).

Desirable: 

  • Professional qualification in L&D (e.g. CIPD, ATD, or equivalent).
  • Awareness of instructional design theories and their practical application, agile, design thinking and WCAG2.1 guidelines
  • Awareness of a range of digital authoring tools such as the Articulate 360 suite, Camtasia, Captivate or other.
  • Experience of working remotely or in a global role.

Salary Package:

BHC candidates, the Local BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC candidates, Basic Salary will be INR 67,767 per month plus 12% provident fund and 6% Special Allowance/Superannuation Fund. 

Additionally the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided. Notional tax will be deducted if you are not liable to pay local tax.

Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg. Some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
