The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO) diplomatic missions in Benelux are part of a world-wide network of over 200 Posts, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Corporate Services Benelux (CSB) is a joint service leading on operational support delivering a wide range of corporate services   in support of the British Embassy, the UK Mission to the EU and UK Delegation to NATO as well as our embassies in The Netherlands and Luxembourg in key areas such as security, finance, pooled transport, HR and IT.

Within CSB a full time vacancy as Payroll Officer to cover for Maternity Leave has become available.

The main purpose of this role is to calculate monthly salaries and liaising with external Payroll providers and tax advisors for LE staff working in the UK Missions in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg and any related tasks including group insurance, hospitalisation scheme and luncheon vouchers.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the finance manager, and in close collaboration with colleagues from the HR team and will have to undergo training on the various on-line tools used for payroll purposes.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • End to end processing of monthly payrolls;
  • Updating and maintaining payroll records;
  • Liaising with staff and management on payroll related queries;
  • Processing staff claims, invoices and payments;
  • Running accounts reports;
  • Cashier.

  • Fluent written and spoken English;
  • Working knowledge of Dutch and/or French;
  • Experience working in a team;
  • Ability to solve problems and pay attention to detail;
  • Strong numerical skills;
  • Strong customers focus and communication skills;
  • Excellent organisation skills: proven ability to plan and prioritise tasks to deliver results;
  • Good IT skills with strong working knowledge of Microsoft packages, particularly Excel.

  • Experience of computer based accounting systems;             
  • Payroll experience.

This is a full-time contract for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week. This position will be filled on a “replacement contract” to cover a Maternity Leave. It is anticipated that the staff member will return in July 2021. This is only a guide and any possible earlier return or extension to this date would be discussed with the successful candidate.

The monthly gross salary for this position is €3,486.19 A2(L) level.

In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13 month, luncheon vouchers pension scheme, optional hospitalisation insurance (subject to monthly employee contribution), reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements.

Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.

Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.

The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.

Visa/passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
