The British Embassy in Bahrain has two (2) vacancies for the position of Projects Officer, Grade – B3 (L).

Main purpose of the job:

As part of the British Embassy Programmes Team, the successful candidates will manage and lead on delivery of a portfolio of projects supporting Bahraini-led reform through a package of UK technical assistance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead on a portfolio of projects that aim to support Bahraini-led reform ensuring projects are complementary and mutually reinforcing.
  • Ensure project management excellence: delivering results, keeping to budget, and dealing with risk.
  • Use a range of programme and project management tools to monitor progress against set milestones.
  • Actively manage risks and put in place mitigation with UK implementing partners, escalating as appropriate.
  • Manage existing projects to include regular review meetings with implementing partners and local stakeholders.
  • Where appropriate, work with local and international partners to identify and develop new projects. Provide advice to potential implementers on submitting project bids, quality assuring project documents including budgets before submission to Boards.
  • Facilitate and encourage strong communication and networking between project partners, organising and attending project-related events as required.
  • Lead on and contribute to relevant paperwork as necessary.
  • Keep abreast of project management practice and identify measures to streamline project management processes.

  • High level of communication skills, including report writing in English and able to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely, both orally and in written communication;
  • Minimum 3 years of Projects, Programme and Budget Management experience;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, and/or qualifications in development/political/programme management-related field;
  • Strong organisational skills and good statistical skills with the ability to analyse and interpret complex data and present this in an easily digestible format;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, and to work well with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines;
  • Literacy in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Teams and PowerPoint).

  • Arabic language;
  • Knowledge of Bahraini government system.

A monthly salary package of 1,100 BHD as well as private medical insurance, a leave entitlement and training package. Specific training and mentoring for the role will be provided for the successful candidate. 

This is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term basis until 31st March 2022No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.

Conditioned working hours are 35 hours per week. Normal working hours are 07:30 – 14:30 Sunday to Thursday. The Embassy operates a flexible working policy which entitles staff to work more flexibly as long as the core hours of 9am – 1pm are worked, subject to Line Manager approval.

The Embassy has a strong Learning & Development culture. There will be early opportunities for programme and financial management training.

The successful candidate will be subject to a 3-month probationary period and will need to commence security clearance procedures through the Embassy as soon as possible. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks.
