The British Embassy in Muscat is looking for a dynamic team player to take up the position of Steward grade S2 to start as soon as possible.

Main Purpose of the Job:

The successful candidate will provide quality support in the running of HM Ambassador’s Residence. This role is central to the smooth running of key diplomatic events, including dinners, lunches and reception for VIP guests.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serving and waiting: Welcome guests, serve and wait at table. Serve drinks and canapés at receptions and assist in preparing for and clearing up after events. Ensuring public toilets are kept tidy during functions.
  • Responsible for all stewarding operations to include, but not limited to, daily cleaning of entrance hallway floor, floors in the private living area including the staircase, external balconies, Residence private and public bathrooms and polishing of all brass fittings including entrance cannons and emblems on the gate.                                 
  • Responsible for daily washing and ironing of all Residence laundry. Keep linen cupboards tidy and that linen and towels are ready for guest bedroom and bathroom as required and ensure that table linen is ready for Residence functions.                                         
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks – provide additional support to Chef and Residence Manager as required, to ensure smooth running of the Residence and inventory.

The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

Working Conditions and Remuneration:

The Embassy offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for the role, including salary of 500 Omani Riyals per month inclusive of all allowances. This is for a full-time employment, on a permanent basis subject to 3-month probationary period.

Conditioned working hours is 45 hours per week.

There is a holiday entitlement of 30 days per year (pro-rated) following successful completion of a 3-month probation period. Holidays that have already been booked will be honoured. There are also national holidays determined annually by the Embassy, which usually total 14 days per year (pro-rated for part time staff).

Employment in the advertised position is dependent on the potential employee having or acquiring valid UK security clearance. Security clearances can take several weeks to process. Inability to obtain a clearance will preclude employment. Loss of a security clearance at any time will lead to termination of employment.

Eligibility:
