Main purpose of your job

The British Embassy in Brasilia invites applications from students in at least their 3rd semester for the above part-time position. This is a challenging and rewarding position within the Trade and Economics team.

This role is intended to provide support to the Trade and Economics Team in all aspects of its work: including administrative support as well as analytical and data support.

Roles and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Conducting research, providing support for analysis and reporting on significant macroeconomic, political and international trade issues in Brazil with a particular focus on research;
  • Gathering qualitative and quantitative economic data, and presenting it in written and graphic format;
  • Writing regular economic reports about the main macroeconomic developments in Brazil;
  • Researching and writing about the latest developments on economic reform agenda;
  • Compiling and updating a reference database of key facts and figures about the Brazilian economy and trade;
  • Preparing and making regular and ad-hoc presentations about the Brazilian economy to key stakeholders in Brazil and in the UK;
  • Supporting the team’s multilateral policy agenda (especially focused on the OECD and G20);
  • Providing support on achieving UK’s wider economic and political objectives in Brazil;
  • Updating the team’s stakeholder engagement plans;
  • Scheduling meetings, organising travel, events and visits, and liaising with key stakeholders (internal and external) including government departments.

  • Ongoing undergraduate studies in Economics or International Relations;
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills in both English and Portuguese;
  • Excellent written and computer skills, including with Excel (including both spreadsheet and graphical representation functions).

Language requirements

Language: Portuguese/English

Level of language required: Fluent

Eligibility to work and live in Brazil is required.

  • Good understanding of the Brazilian economy and Brazil’s economic reform agenda;
  • Confidence in conducting original economic analysis;
  • Knowledge of Brazilian trade policy and ongoing negotiations;     
  • Familiarity with public economic/trade databases;
  • Understanding of the role of multilateral organisations (especially the OECD, the WTO and G20)
