Interpeace

Interpeace is an international organization for peacebuilding, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Its aim is to strengthen the capacities of societies to manage conflict in non-violent, non-coercive ways by assisting national actors in their efforts to develop social and political cohesion. Interpeace also strives to assist the international community (and in particular the UN) to play a more effective role in supporting peacebuilding efforts around the world through better understanding and response to the challenges of creating local capacities that enhance social and political cohesion. For more information about Interpeace, please visit www.interpeace.org

Background

The Peace Talks is an initiative and platform that showcases the inspirational stories of people who are making extraordinary contributions to peace. While the Peace Talks up until now has focused on city specific events, we want to expand the initiative beyond this focus to be a media and events platform which presents new forms of content including content that we would curate from other sources.

Since 2013, the Peace Talks has organised city specific events, where people deliver a short talk, known as a Peace Talk. Speakers come from different sectors and industries and share their personal stories, ideas and practical solutions to resolve conflict. The Peace Talks is not a political platform; rather the emphasis is on practical lessons and personal stories.

The Peace Talks was co-founded by the United Nations Office at Geneva, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform and Interpeace, with the support of the Swiss Government.

The Peace Talks seeks to:

  • DEMONSTRATEthat peaceful solutions to conflict exist
  • SHOWCASEinspiring stories and what is working
  • AMPLIFY voices of women and men actively contributing to shaping peace
  • RAISEawareness that each and every person has a role in building peace
  • INSPIRE action in everyday life and on a global scale

The Peace Talks underline that building peace is not only an effort of technical specialists, but that each and every person has a role to play in peace.

There are few platforms that showcase solutions about resolving conflict that include not only the perspectives of conflict resolution experts, but experts from other sectors. By expanding the conversation about practical solutions for peace beyond the realm of politics, ideas can emerge and be showcased and silos can be broken down.

Service or Assignment Description and Objective(s)

The Peace Talks team is looking for a vendor that can support the re-design of the website to improve the communication of its peacebuilding message, encourage the sharing of information, and be a source of inspiration to a wider audience. This should reflect the Peace Talks shift to expanding beyond its current focus on city specific events to be a media and events platform which features new forms of content, including content that we would curate.

The selected agency will be required to manage the production of the new website, ensuring a consistent quality and aesthetic vision. Peace Talks values a team with an understanding of UX design so as to optimize user experience of the Peace Talks platform improving interaction and a better showcase all the existing Peace Talks archive of knowledge and networks.

The overarching objectives of the new website should be to:

  • Shift away from a corporate look to a new visual look that is more engaging and inspiring (a moodboard will be provided)
  • Rework website structure to better showcase existing content and to accommodate new types of content to be curated. This new structure should make better use and value of the wealth of knowledge the Peace Talks has in its archive
  • Serve new types of Peace Talks content (eg. Written transcripts, blog posts etc)
  • Better showcase the extent of the Peace Talks network (in terms of speakers and partnerships)
  • Function in desktop + mobile format

To be discussed: Based on updated visual identity, eventually develop templates for the presentation of content on social media.

The vendor will work in close collaboration with a member of the Peace Talks team, who will support the development of written content. It is expected that the agency will be required to develop graphics to support a full re-design of the website.

The Peace Talks teams expects that discussions will be held with the web design team to finalise a website hierarchy/skeleton in a way to optimize the presentation of the Peace Talks content. Upon hiring, the Peace Talks team will be able to share examples of designs and moodboard which they feel could work to help achieve a final website design.

  • A partnerships section highlighting past partnerships + explaining how to become a partner
  • An about, mission and contact us section

No web hosting is required as this is already covered by Interpeace’s communication team.

Scope of work

Managing this project involves:

  1. Developing a website with a clear and functional structure supporting the Peace Talks mission.

Work on the website should begin in December 2020. We expect the redesign to take around 3 to 4 months. With the development and design phase to take place in the first 2-3 months and the handover with user manual etc. happening in the final month.
