Americares Emergency Programs leverages a global partner network and supply of donated medicine, logistics capabilities, health and medical expertise, an extensive roster of emergency response professionals to respond to emergencies, help communities recover from disasters, reduce disaster risk and improve health outcomes. Americares responds to an average of 30 natural disasters and humanitarian crises worldwide each year. Our Emergency Programs interventions include but are not limited to: Delivery/distribution of medical supplies and supply chain management, surge support to partner health facilities, medical teams, rehabilitations and restoration of health facilities and mental health and psychosocial support services.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emergency Response (ER) Associate is a core team member responsible for information management before, during and after responses, as well as supporting Americares emergency response activities. The Associate will be responsible for information collection and data management, program reporting, compliance and accountability measures, conducting research and analysis, and performing a range of other tasks to support ER operations including but not limited to generating and disseminating agendas and meeting notes and opening and closing response records.

The ER While the Associate will work primarily from Americares Headquarters in Stamford. The ER Associate may be asked to deploy to emergencies on occasion, in the United States and around the world, to support response activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

  • Monitor emergencies via news and alert systems daily
  • Conduct research and prepare reports on emergencies, gaps in the health sector as a result of emergency or conflict and regulatory changes in affected countries/region in order to inform Americares potential response activities and situational updates
  • Actively participate in Emergency Programs Working Group meetings and other team and response meetings
  • Work closely with ER and cross-departmental teams, including Finance, Logistics and Project Administration to create open and close emergency response operations and records, and maintain all required response documentation
  • Support rapid and effective implementation of response programs, which may include the delivery/distribution of medical supplies and supply chain management, surge support to partner health facilities, medical teams, rehabilitations and restoration of health facilities and mental health and psychosocial support services
  • Provide communications, research and other support to Americares teams deployed in response to an emergency
  • Collect and review reporting from response partners including distribution information and financial records associated with shipments, procurements and grants, and the impact of Americares support for emergency-affected communities
  • Prepare situational updates and facilitate program reporting to articulate Americares impact to internal and external audiences
  • Draft reports and donor feedback to be used for web stories, communications with donors and other reporting to Americares external constituents
  • On occasion, the Associate may be asked to deploy to the field as part of a response team
  • Provide administrative support as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Prior work or office experience, preferably in the fields of Global Health or Emergency Response
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and the adaptability to reprioritize focus
  • Must be able to maintain composure in highly fluid and sometimes stressful situations, when the organization is actively engaged in response activities
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, balanced focus on personal accountability and team goals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communications skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English, including report writing and editing
  • Working proficiency in Spanish and/or French language preferred
  • Passion for our mission and the desire to work within the humanitarian aid field
  • Ability and flexibility to travel if needed
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required)
  • Must have a valid passport
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
