Purpose and Objective:

The UNICEF Internship Programme offers eligible/qualified students at both Headquarters and country offices the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF’s work under the direct supervision of experienced UNICEF staff. This internship is for the purpose of acquiring organizational knowledge of rules, regulations and processes to supplement academic and theoretical knowledge.

Under the guidance of the Senior Advisor, Prevention of Harmful Cultural Practices this intern provides professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for the UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to, Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage through the application of theoretical and technical skills in researching, collecting, analyzing and presenting technical program information while learning organizational rules, regulations and procedures to support the development and implementation of the Child Protection Work Plan.

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Within the context of the UNFPA-UNICEF Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage:

1. Support to program development and planning

• Prepare technical reports and inputs for program preparation and documentation ensuring accuracy, timeliness and relevancy of information.
• Provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of programming processes by, preparing materials/documentations to support program planning, results-based planning (RBM) and monitoring and evaluating results.

2. Program management, monitoring and delivery of results.

• Work closely and collaboratively with internal and external colleagues and partners to collect/analyze/share information on the programme implementation issues.
• Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
• Participate in program reviews and annual sectoral reviews and prepare minutes/reports on results for follow up action by higher management and other stakeholders.

3. Innovation and knowledge management

• Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development and to build the capacity of stakeholders.
• Research, benchmark and report on best and cutting-edge practices for development planning of knowledge products and systems.

Duration

15 June – 15 Dec 2021, max duration is 26 weeks.

Salary/Payment:

In accordance to UNICEF’s guidelines, interns will be paid a stipend of US $1,700 per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance:

UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern’s service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start the internship with the Education Section.

Living Conditions and Working Environment:

The intern will be remote based and work from home. The intern will work with the Child Protection Section and report to the supervisor of this internship. The intern is not expected to travel during the assignment. The intern will be expected to participate in Child Protection section meetings, as well as other UNICEF meetings of interest to the student, including the seminar series for UNICEF interns. Guidance will be provided on a regular basis.

Qualifications:

• Education – Currently enrolled or just completed a graduate (Master’s) degree in the area of Global Gender Studies, Development Studies, Human Rights, Global Studies or Social Work;
• Excellent academic performance, as demonstrated by academic records;
• Language – Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chinese), or a local language, is an asset.
