Travel:
Pending pandemic resolution, UNDP will cover the cost of travel of the individual to the duty station, as well as their return to their home upon completion of their services. Travel costs are covered only in the event that the function will be undertaken physically in the duty station and excludes working from home arrangements.

Cost of other travel, as deemed necessary by UNDP while performing the outlined functions, shall be at UNDP’s expense and in accordance with the applicable UNDP travel policy.

Office/Unit/Project Description:
The Lion’s Share Fund is an initiative led by advertising companies and major brands. Its premise is simple yet innovative: when an animal image is currently used for promoting goods and services no remuneration is paid by the advertisers to compensate the animal, its habitats and nature – unlike when people appear in advertising. The Lion’s Share initiative seek to change this by creating a voluntary mechanism for participating advertisers to give 0.5% of their relevant media buy for the use of animals in their marketing. In return for contributing a portion of their advertising budget to the fund, brands will be able to use a Lion’s Share certificate/logo on their products, signaling to consumers the positive conservation impact.

The Lion’s Share is a multi-partner platform bringing together private sector companies, global and local non-profit organisations, the United Nations (UN), specialists and concerned individuals working to make a difference for biodiversity. The founding partners are Finch, Mars Incorporated, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The objective of the Lion’s Share Fund is to “harness private sector leadership and consumer support to secure healthy wildlife populations and habitats, instill compassion and care for animals as the foundation of human well-being and ensure increased appreciation for nature and its contributions to equitable and sustainable development pathways”.

The Lion’s Share Fund was announced in June 2018 at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The Lion’s Share Fund will be officially launched at the 73rd UN General Assembly. Since launch, outreach progress has been made with brands such as Gucci, Cartier and Lacoste having joined the Fund.

As 2021 is a critical year to accelerate funding to a sustainable level – a tipping point – acceleration of brand signup is needed, requiring the services of an Outreach Specialist is required. A 2021 Outreach Strategy has been set for implementation.

The Outreach Specialist supports the overall coordination, planning and realization of the Fund’s private sector fundraising strategy. The position will utilize various fundraising channels and conduct fundraising activities, ensuring engaged and long-term partnerships driving revenue growth for support of biodiversity conservation globally. The Outreach Specialist is contracted by BERA but jointly reports to both the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director, BERA, as well as the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director, BPPS.

Duties and Responsibilities

Scope of Work

Responsibilities of the position include:
Outreach

  • Develop and implement the existing business strategy to target new partners for major financial contributions.
  • Manage the direct solicitation of top global advertisers.
  • Identify, inspire and engage a group of private sector leaders and partners interested in promoting biodiversity conservation.
  • Actively approach and negotiate relationships with key influencers, business leaders, and relevant private sector coalitions.
  • Support effective maintenance of engagement with the private sector partners.
  • Stay abreast of key developments in the external environment as they affect private sector fundraising, and act upon new growth opportunities.
  • Support the planning and execution of outreach related events and meetings.

Internal Coordination

  • Make recommendations for systems, methods and tools that support solicitation, engagement and stewardship of private sector partners.
  • Liaison with MPTFO and support of due diligence process.
  • Provide support in overseeing efficient flow of information across all levels of implementation and facilitate dissemination and sharing of resources between bureaus.
  • Provide regular summaries of activities/updates to team members and senior management.

Communications

  • Providing support to ensure communications activities are in line with outreach aims.
  • As needed, provide communication materials related to the development of private sector partnerships for the Steering Committee and/or Executive Board.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Academic Education

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: Business Administration, Marketing,Communications, Fundraising, Management or another relevant technical field.

Alternatively, a first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree orequivalent) in fields specified above and in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Min. years of relevant Work experience

With an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) a minimum of seven (7) years and with a first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) a minimum of nine (9) years of relevant and progressively responsible professional work experience in private sector partnerships, private sector fundraising, leading corporate social responsibility and/or marketing strategies of global brands.

Required skills and competencies

Experience in private sector partnerships, private sector fundraising, leading corporate social responsibility and/or marketing strategies of global brands.

Proven experience in solicitation, acquisition, and management of high-level and corporate partnerships.

Fluent in written and spoken English.

Desired additional skills and competencies

Ability to craft and present compelling pitch communications or materials to effectively engage and secure support of private sector entities and coalitions, board members, staff, and other target groups.

Proven experience in securing major financial contributions from private sector partners.

Knowledge of and experience in the advertising and/or marketing industries, especially top global advertisers.

Experience working in an international context.

Working knowledge of another UN language.

Required Language(s) (at working level)

Fluent in written and spoken English.

Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.
