Postdoctoral Position in Cell Biology / High Throughput Screening to create GHOSTs

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, is an international research institute focused on cell and developmental biology. Currently about 500 employees are working at the institute, where half are from abroad with 53 nations represented. MPICBG has been twice awarded the title “Best Place to Work” (Academia and postdocs) by the journal “The Scientist”.

We are offering a

Postdoctoral Position
in Cell Biology / High Throughput Screening
to create GHOSTs

Job description

Wouldn’t it be cool if living biological tissues were transparent? Light microscopes could unleash their full potential and study biological processes deep within their native environments.

The Kreysing lab previously investigated the biophysical origin of retinal transparency. Funded by the European Union, we now attempt to generate ‘Genetically enhanced, optically superior tissues’ (GHOSTs).

As a first step into this direction, we recently succeeded to improve the optical properties of mammalian cells by directed evolution. We are now looking for an experienced biologist, bioengineer, biotechnologist, biophysicist or similar, to help us uncover molecular pathways that modulate the optical properties of tissues by setting up systematic screens that leverage world-class robotic sample handling and automated microscopy.

Your qualifications

Candidates require a goal oriented ‘can do’ attitude, and should be familiar with at least several of the following techniques: Mammalian cell culture, mammalian directed evolution, compound screening, image analysis and data analysis via ‘Cell profiler’ and ‘Knime’, tissue culture, genome engineering, and light microscopy. Equally important are outstanding enthusiasm for interdisciplinary & quantitative science. Excellent English communication skills (spoken and in writing) are required.

Our offer

This position is available immediately. Salary and social benefits will be in accordance with the regulations of the German TVöD Bund (salary agreement for public service employees). The contract will be limited initially to 2 years with the possibility of extension. For informal inquiries, please contact Dr. Moritz Kreysing via email: [email protected].

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. There is no deadline.

The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Applications should include

  1. a cover letter indicating the motivation to apply for this position,
  2. a CV including a publication list,
  3. a concise description of previous research accomplishments (favorably <1 page) and
  4. contact details of at least 2 approachable academic referees

and should be submitted via our online application system stating Code 2021-PostDoc-GHOSTs in your application letter.
