Position description
As a National Affairs Producer, you’ll help lead a team of producers on daily segments and longer-term projects as needed, manage and plan production and delivery of high quality, innovative content. You’ll tell stories on a wide variety of topics for both television and online. You’ll drive the story idea generation; research and interviews, acquire, screen, and log footage; write copy and scripts; and facilitate/assist with studio production among other duties.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You’ll get to know your team and the wider organization, and how each group functions independently as well as part of the whole. You’ll establish key relationships with your peers, while being exposed to executives through participation in editorial planning meetings. You’ll contribute to a variety of stories, from features, to politics for the broadcast and online starting on day one. You’ll have a number of stories skillfully produced and aired.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You are regularly contributing to both features and in-depth news reporting. You bring a vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch meetings. Your demonstrated passion for knowing the ideal way to produce content and ability to seamlessly jump from project to project will enable you to flourish. You’ve developed trust with executive leadership. You have grown your own skills and those of junior producers, and can point to evidence in the team’s improved reporting.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Ability to shoot and edit using non-linear editing programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge in national news production management for daily, 24/7 or weekly television and digital outlets.
- Demonstrated knowledge in field and studio production of news.
- A collaborative attitude, especially under deadline pressure.
