The Defence Section is responsible for maintaining and strengthening the UK’s defence interests with the Republic of Singapore. It does this by promoting links between UK and Singapore defence organisations and defence-related institutions.  It identifies areas for potential cooperation between both countries and develops bi-lateral programmes that support this interaction.

A vacancy has become available for the Assistant to the Defence Adviser within the Defence Section.

Your main duties will be to assist the Defence Adviser with the development and implementation of a defence relations activity programme based around defined UK Government and Ministry of Defence objectives. This will require liaison with the UK Ministry of Defence and other government departments and the Republic of Singapore Ministry of Defence.

You will be responsible for supervising the busy office, ensuring that all administrative tasks are completed to standard and time, and will manage the Defence Section accounts, including budget forecasting, payment of salaries, expenses and invoices. Additionally you will be the focal point for coordinating with High Commission staff on human resources and facilities management. You will take the lead in planning and arranging for all ceremonial activities, visiting British military units and training exchanges, working closely with the Singapore MINDEF and other forces where necessary. To help with these responsibilities some training will be provided in the UK to include accounting and other administrative aspects of your role (all flights and expenses will be met by the Defence Section). The successful applicant will only be appointed on gaining UK Security clearance.

You will have a strong administration and financial background, be able to operate to deadlines, adaptable and flexible approach when dealing with unforeseen circumstances, both during and outside of normal working hours. We are looking for a decisive team player with considerable initiative and a committed professional approach to all tasks.  

Good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a strong sense of teamwork is vital to your success.

  • You will need to hold one of the following passports: UK, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand

  • Office or accounts management experience is highly desirable
  • Previous managerial responsibility
  • Familiarity with office IT, particularly Microsoft Office, Teams
  • A clean driving licence

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary of SGD 4,738 per month and annual wage supplement [an additional 2 months’ salary paid out in December each year], 23-day annual leave entitlement in pro rata and insurance plan.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake the UK NSVS security clearance process and will only be able to start once they have been successfully cleared.
