The British Embassy in Kazakhstan is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking for a Trade and Investment Officer (Sick leave – cover), based in Nur-Sultan.

Main roles and responsabilities:

  • To support British businesses seeking to export and operate in Kazakhstan
  • Help the team organise two-way trade missions and high level visits between the UK and Kazakhstan by British and their Kazakh companies and UK and Kazakhstan government ministers and officials.
  • Organise commercial events and receptions.
  • Undertake tailored market research.
  • Carry out a range of tasks, such as data entry, contribute to sector reports and briefings.
  • Handle trade enquiries, including market research and report writing.
  • Develop & maintain local contacts in government & business.
  • Maintain contact database, file and maintain filing system.
  • Carry out daily administrative duties
  • Translate as required.
  • Support the Director of DIT Kazakhstan, other colleagues and the British Ambassador at the British Embassy in Nur-Sultan.
  • Fulfil wider DIT and British Embassy objectives, in relation to commercial requirements

  • Excellent command of verbal and written English and Russian
  • A self-starter who can work well both individually and in a team.
  • Good self-management and organisational skills.
  • Adaptable and calm under pressure
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in administrative roles.
  • IT proficiency

  • Good spoken and written Kazakh.
  • Personal qualities and aptitude (resilience, adaptability) for ad hoc consular or crisis work.

This is a full-time position of 5 working days (36 hours net) per week, 5 months contract.

Salary will be USD 1,190 per calendar month (gross). Please note that it is the employee’s responsibility to pay individual income tax.

Employees are entitled to annual leave entitlement pro-rata based on 25 days total per calendar year. In addition, the Embassy observes up to 14 days public holidays marking different Kazakh and UK holidays. The Embassy provides medical insurance for the job holder and two dependants.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a professional background check and security clearance, and is expected to commence employment as soon as possible. The successful candidate must have pre-existing work authorisation for the Kazakhstan in order to apply. All applicants should have the right to live and work in Kazakhstan. The British Embassy does not sponsor applications for work permits.
