The Department for International Trade (DIT) is responsible for promoting British trade across the world. DIT Europe works to help UK-based businesses export to the EU and to encourage the best European businesses to invest in the UK. DIT has a GREAT opportunity for a confident and motivated Trade Development Adviser to join our team in Bucharest.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Assist UK companies to successfully access the Romanian market in the sectors of responsibility;
  • Offer support for the Financial and Professional Services (FPS) and Healthcare/Life Sciences (LS) Lead at national level and in charge of the delivery of the projects managed by Bucharest Post, under the Europe Central FPS and Healthcare/LS Campaigns; assist in the delivery of the regional activities in the Europe Central Region, comprising of 10 markets: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia;
  • Generate and deliver DIT targets: export wins, Overseas Market Introduction Services (payable services) for the British companies, service deliveries etc., according to the activities agreed in the Europe Regional Trade Plan and Country Trade Plan;
  • Conduct market research: develop knowledge and contacts within the sectors of interest, participate to trade fairs and events, keep abreast of the Romanian economic situation, overall business environment and developments in the sectors of responsibility, draft official letters and reports;
  • Perform and record administrative duties in time, in a proper manner according to DIT and Post requirements and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system in use.

  • Proficient level of English and Romanian (written and spoken, minimum of C1 level for CEFR framework*);
  • Previous relevant professional experience (e.g. in administrative roles, event planning, desk research, etc.);
  • A college/university level degree in a relevant area or equivalent experience;
  • Commercial background;
  • Ability to work in a diverse and cross cultural environment;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Strong team player;
  • Good abilities of researching, collecting and processing data and market information;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Excellent personal communication and organisational skills;
  • IT literacy.

  • Experience with Oracle systems and databases;
  • Strong track record of business development/sales experience and proven market awareness of the national and regional business environment;
  • Experience or knowledge in the Healthcare, Life Science, and/or Financial and Professional Services sectors.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract of 2 years (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.

The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.

Monthly salary is RON 5,140 gross. In addition, staff are entitled to a 13th month salary pro rata and may receive a performance related bonus at year end. Staff also receive meal vouchers and a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania.

For your information whilst the Emergency Ordinance 79/2017 is in place the job holder will receive a gross monthly compensation bonus of RON 1,028.

The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of up to 30 calendar days.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.

Visa/Passport requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Additional requirements may become necessary after 31st December 2020.
